AUTUMN YOGA RETREAT
Autumn Yoga Retreat Sunday, October 4th, 10-4
Always an inclusive space, this retreat is open level for all yogis, brand new to the practice and experienced, alike.
Autumn is a time for grounding, renewal, and letting go. The season beckons us to slow down and reflect. It is also a time of change, and profound beauty and richness. By embracing the energy of the season, we can find balance and harmony within ourselves. Through mindful yoga practice, breathwork, nourishing foods, and intentional reflection, we prepare not just for the colder months ahead, but for a deeper connection to ourselves. As autumn arrives and the year winds down, nature takes steps to conserve energy and let go of that which is unnecessary; this yoga practice will enable you to begin that same process of conserving energy and sensory withdrawal (pratyahara). This is reflected in the practice with vinyasas such as Child's Pose (Balasana) flowing into Upward-Facing Dog Pose (Urdhva Mukha Svanasana), which generates that sense of moving from the sunny openness of summer, to the more inward, contemplative focus of the autumn and winter months ahead.
This experience is centered around honoring the five limbs of yoga:
The Five Yamas of Yoga;
1. Ahimsa (non-violence) Ahimsa can be interpreted as: not physically harming others, ourselves, or nature; not thinking negative thoughts about others or ourselves;
2. Satya (truthfulness) Satya is truthfulness, but it’s more than just telling the truth. The word ‘sat’ literally translates as ‘true essence’ or ‘unchangeable’.
3. Asteya (non-stealing) Asteya means ‘non-stealing’, but like the other Yamas and Niyamas, it means so much more that that. It arises from the Vritti (thoughts/fluctuations of the mind) – ‘I’m not good enough’ or ‘I don’t have enough’. It arises from the lack of faith in ourselves.
4. Brahmacharya (moderation of the senses/right use of energy) Brahmacharya is often translated as ‘celibacy’ from all that does not serve us.
5. Aparigraha (non-greed) to includenon-possessiveness’, and ‘non-attachment’. This important Yama teaches us to take only what we need & keep only what serves us.
The Schedule will include:
10-10:15am Beverages, Light Breakfast, Introductions.
10:20-11:20 Intention Setting-honoring the transition of seasons and grounding within ourselves through various meditative techniques.
11-12pm- Autumn Equinox Flow practicing the shift from cooling breath and postural practices. We will focus on postures that draw energy from the upper centers of the body including the head, throat, and heart, into the lower centers of the belly, & sacrum.
12-1pm Lunch & Swim, Hot-tub and SUP Yoga lessons offered
1-2 pm Yin Yoga Practice. In this grounding practice, we will hold each pose for 2-3 minutes, allowing the deeper, less flexible tissues in your body the time to stretch. Rather than strengthening your muscles, as other forms of yoga do, yin yoga is more likely to improve your overall flexibility and range of motion.
2-3pm Education and Discussion of the Five Niyamas of Yoga. The second limb of Patanjali’s eight-limbed yoga system contains the five internal practices of Niyama (observance).
3-4pm Relax and enjoy the company of new friends and restore the soul in our scenic space. Warm by the fire or the hot tub as we unwind and prepare to look inward as the season cools and we learn to embrace the comfort of internal peace and joyful holidays to come.
